Scripture time

Mikah, Dylan, Shasta, Julie (ice skating at Nelson family Christmas party-our numbers were few)

Every night for family scripture study Keith or I read the scriptures and the kids repeat the words to us. With a 6 and 3 year old this is the only thing we have found that works (sometimes). Tonight when it was Dylan's turn to repeat the scriptures. She decided that she was going to read them and we were going to repeat them. She just received her very own copy of miniature scriptures from Grandma Jayne with her name in-scripted on them. So we let her read them as we repeated what she said. I love kids interpretation of things.

Dylan 1:1
And he passed out. And he came to pass out. They were good guys. With the power of God. They didn't get burned. And then they turned into bad guys. Ammon played Basketball and Legos with Logan.

Who knew that my 3 year old had already picked up the pride cycle :) And I had no idea every time we said "and it came to pass" she was imagining some guy passing out. Gotta love it.

Birds and the Bees

Logan to my friend Kristen while we were driving in the car...

I know where babies come from. My dad gave my mom a seed. She ate that seed. The baby grew in her stomach. And then one day my mom went to the Dr. and he got the baby out.

How did he know?!?

What I have found today...

I was upstairs rounding the troops for lunch. Asking everybody what they would like to eat today. As I made my way to the kitchen Logan wouldn't let me come in. He said he needed a minute. When I came in I found a note next to a pan of cheesy potatoes. Translation..."I Logan cheesey potato logan more potato" I had to laugh. So I dished him up a plate and after lunch was over I found the note below.
Translation..."I love mom, I love u mom, I love everybody." He is 6. But totally uninterested in reading and writing. It is a fight to get him to do any of it. He can sound out words and CAN read, but really doesn't care for it. Maybe this is a start of some interest...I can only hope.

While doing laundry I left the laundry room to put some clothes away and when I came back in I found this.

He was so thrilled with his new playpen. Every time he tried to climb out he hit his head. He thought it was so funny he kept trying. He is still a very good natured little guy, but he gets into trouble more than my other 2 ever did. He makes more messes than he should be capable. He is a very good climber. He doesn't care to walk, but that doesn't stop him from getting into things that he shouldn't. I am in a heap of trouble with this one.

This is what happened the first day it snowed. I still can't believe Logan got his old bibs zipped up. He could barely breathe in them and couldn't bend over. Yet he was so excited about the snow that he wore them for a couple hours.
Thanks to Will Gainer our family is hooked on Dual Survivor on Netflix. My kids beg to watch it. One day I was making dinner and they were watching an episode, I rounded the kitchen corner to see this. Apparently they both needed a good back scratch.

Wow, 2 posts in 1 day. I am awesome.

I got a text today from Casi telling me what Logan said to her on their ride home from kindergarten today.

Logan to Casi: You shouldtalk to my mom
Casi: Why
Logan: Cuz whenever she comes out here she looks really cute.

That one comment made my whole day. Maybe even week!

Family Pictures

Family pictures are a PAIN! I guess that is why you only do it once a year. Finding outfits and getting everyone ready takes way too long. Elise Airmet Photography took these for us. She hasn't been doing it for super long, but she did an awesome job. I really like her style and think she has an eye for it. Special thanks goes to Laura Hall for my outfit and hair and lipstick and makeup....the list goes on. She...is...awesome! Enjoy my favorites.

For Uncle Matt

Happy Late Halloween. We tried to go with a theme this year. Since we are the Knights, Logan was an actual Knight, Dylan his princess, Finley the Dragon, Mom the Jester, and dad the King. Of course he had to be the "Burger King." We were in such a hurry on Halloween that we didn't even have time to take everyone's pictures. This is seriously the best picture I have of Dylan. She looked so pretty with her makeup and big dangly earrings.

Not so funny last night....

I woke up at 4:30 a.m. to the sound of laughter in the bathroom. I got up to see what was going on and every light upstairs was on. Toys were out, and messes were made. When I went to bed last night the house was clean. Hmmmmm, I have no idea how long they had been up. They were putting hair bands in their hair. I put them back in bed trying my hardest to convince them it was still night time. I heard them playing and laughing for a while. I thought they would be so exhausted they would sleep in. Nope. They came trecking in my bathroom at 6:45 this morning. Saying how happy they were that it was finally morning.

Keith was watching the kids while I was out doing some Relief Society stuff. He said he hadn't heard Fin for a minute so he went to investigate and this is what he found.

I was inside getting Finley ready to go and thought I better go outside to check on Dylan. I found her in the garage like this. On top of the car using the antennae as a microphone. She was singing her heart out. I ran for the camera and got a few shots of her. She has some pretty good punkrocker moves. It was really entertaining. The best part, she was singing her testimony. It was a riot. I got some video, but my blogger hates me. She sang "I know that the church is true, it's true. I climb and climb...The prince of the God, I love the God, The saints of the God...of the God. Nah Nah Nah." It was darling. Once again. I love kids, they crack me up!

Dylan: Mom, if me and Kenna (her best friend, she is 5 so Dylan worships her) shared 2 germs, wouldn't it be cool if I turned into Kenna and she turned into Dylan.

Logan: Dad everybody has to do homework in the whole wide world but me!

Keith: How come?
Logan: Because mom forgets to do it with me. And I don't remind her so I don't have to do it. You promise not to tell mom? You promise?

The leg bone is connected to the butt bone...

Dylan in total shock: Mom, look! When I walk my bum follows me.

(She is walking around the room staring at her behind in total amazement.)

Dylan: It goes everywhere I go! But it doesn't talk right?

Good morning.

This morning I needed both kids up early so I walked in their room and flipped the light on at 7:15. They were not thrilled to be woken up that way and both started rubbing their eyes. I reminded them why I was waking them up so they both decided it was a good thing and sat up. Then Logan rolled off his bed and fell flat on his face. He sat up and said "That's how I wake myself up. It usually works."

Kids are awesome.

Logan: When I turn into a Dad and need to find a part-en-er I will have to search and search. What if I never find my own part-en-er and then I never have a wife?

Me: You are too cute to have to search and search. You will find a wife. What about Lizzy?

Logan: Lizzy? We are just friends mom. We haven't fallen in love. Maybe if we fall in love we could get married. But thats just weird cuz we are just friends.

Me: Well what about Hannah? You already said you were going to marry her.

Logan: We are in love. But when we are a mom and dad I might not be able to get her to marry me. She might say no and not want to be my part-en-er.

Dylan wanted to play with her crayons and her dora book during the Sacrament on Sunday.

Keith: Wait until after the water to play.
Dylan: But I'm not thirsty.
Keith: We don't take the sacrament because we are thirsty. We take it to remind us about Jesus.
Dylan: Oh! Can I have a lot of water so I can think about Jesus a lot?

Dylan is building block towers so Finley can knock them down. She just scream in excitement "Finley, you are my best knocker in the whole wide world!" Then she picked him up and gave him a giant squeeze.

Favors

Keith was feeding Fin and needed a glass of water. The kids are always happy to help Dad and love having individual jobs.

Keith (in his super happy daddy voice): Dylan will you do me a favor?
Dylan: Yes Ma'am
Keith: Will you rinse out my cup and fill it with ice water?
Dylan: Yes daddy (she really responds this way when she is trying hard to be nice)
Keith: Logan will you do me a favor?
Logan: Yes, what?
Keith: Please put my dishes in the sink?

They both happily went about their favors. Then a few minutes later Dylan walked back in the kitchen.

Dylan (In her nicest Dylan voice): Will you do me a favor?
Keith: Yes ma'am.
Dylan: Will you make my bed.
Logan: Will you do me a favor? and do my dishes?

Both kids knew they weren't allowed to play with their friends until their chores were done. Smart kids. No Keith didn't do their chores, but he did help. Smart kids-you scratch my back and I will scratch yours.

Last night the kids got to talk with Grandma and Grandpa Knight on facetime cuz Grandma got a new ipad. Dylan thought it was so cool. As she was talking to Grandma she said "Can I see Grandma'P'. Somehow grandma understood what she was saying and turned the camera towards Grandpa Knight.

Funny Dylan

Dylan didn't want to come inside for dinner today so she threw a big fit on our way inside. All of our neighbors were outside enjoying the warm weather so she was mad she had to leave her friends. I still had to set the table, so I let her throw her little fit. She went out in the garage and slammed the door. She knew she wasn't allowed to leave, so she was showing us how angry she was by throwing her fit in the garage. She was screaming pretty hard, and Keith and I just assumed she was still in a huff about having to come in for dinner. Next thing we know all of our neighbors are in our garage coming to see her. She had fallen down the garage stairs and was laying upside down on her stomach waiting to be rescued. She had been crying for a couple minutes. Keith picked her up and brought her inside. We both felt horrible because we just assumed she was crying because she was angry-not hurt. As we talked to her afterwards, we found out she laid like that on purpose trying to get some attention. Go figure.

Today we had chicken tacos for dinner. I made Dyl a quesadilla because she won't usually touch meat. She ate all of her quesadilla (I thought) then turned to me and said "another quesadilla please" while she waved the tortilla triangles in her hands. She ate only the cheese and left every single triangle.

Random pictures

Not the best picture, but Fin LOVED the game Twister. He would just crawl back and forth under everyone. He thought he was pretty funny, and I think he thought he was playing the game.Every picture I try to get of all 3 of the kids looks like this. Dylan is usually squeezing the daylights out of Fin, pulling that I love you SO much I can't contain myself face.
I thought this was cool that I caught him in the middle of making funny noises.
This was Saturday General Conference entertainment. Logan and Dylan painting Dad's fingernails.

We got home from running some errands and I ran upstairs to put Finley down for a nap and came down less than 5 minutes later to find Dylan asleep in our entry way. I have no idea how she fell asleep so fast. It was 4:00 in the afternoon, and she was supposed to be finding shoes to go outside and play.

I really hope this doesn't offend anyone. Please note that my kids are still little :)

Dylan was having a playdate with her cute friend Shelby. This was the first (at our house) of hopefully many playdates today. Shelby is the most darling little black girl you will ever see. And her and Dylan play VERY good together. Obviously living in Utah, my kids don't spend much time around black people...So Dylan and Shelby were playing make believe. They were working in a hospital giving massages to all the sick people. It was pretty hilarious to watch. Dylan would be the sick girl and Shelby would work really hard to make her feel better. Logan came in while Dylan was attending to her sick friend Shelby and he said "Dylan don't do that (meaning massage Shelby's back) You are going to get brown paint all over you!

Copy Cat

I have some funny pictures, I just haven't loaded them up yet and don't have time to do it. Had to post this before I forgot.

We were at Old Navy yesterday looking for family picture outfits. I was trying on a shirt in the dressing room and Dylan was sitting in front of the big mirror staring at herself saying "stop copying me, no you stop copying me, STOP COPYING ME, NO! you stop copying ME." I started laughing and then she said "that mirror can't stop!"

We were sitting at the kitchen table right after Logan came home from school today. Dylan walked up to him, and said I need to bless you. She put both of her hands on his head and said "Please bless that you won't go to school anymore and you will stay home with me." Then she walked away as if it was a totally normal thing to do.

The Princess and too much kissing.

Dylan: I want a magic wand that I can wave and turn into a princess.
Me: You are already a princess. You don't need a magic wand.
Dylan: I know that, I need to turn you into a princess.

*****************

Me: What did you do in kindergarten today?
Logan: I kissed Lily and Hannah.
Me: You aren't supposed to kiss girls, that is gross.
Logan: I can kiss all the girls that I want mom.
Me: They don't want to be kissed, so leave them alone.
Logan: Yes they do. They want me to kiss them. I know everything. And I want to kiss Lily and Hannah so I am going to kiss Lily and Hannah.

******************

Me: How come you love Evan and Dexter? Which one is your boyfriend?
Dylan: Dexter is my boyfriend and Evan is my prince. So I can kiss both of them.

******************

Dylan is SO excited for Halloween. She is such a candy girl that she can hardly wait. You know you have made Dylan happy if she says "I am going to share my bubble gum with you after trick or treating day" or "you can pick 2 of my candies on trick or treating day." And you know you have made her really mad when she says "you are not my best friend anymore." or even worse "You don't get to have any of my candy when I go trick or treating."

This was after church on Sunday. He is always so tired when we get home because he misses his morning nap with 11 o'clock church. I did video it, but it was too large to load. He was eating in his sleep. He is such a sweet, fun baby.

Dylan post pigtail hair. Getting ready to go to sleep.

As I look each day for things that are funny. I am realizing that almost everything my kids do is funny. They say the sweetest, most innocent things. And their perception of life sometimes is hilarious. One thing I have realized over the last six months is how innocent and submissive they really are. Kids don't do things to be malicious or mean or naughty. They do things because they are curious or have not been taught the correct way to do things...(or they are really tired or hungry :) For example, you can yell at your kids all day to clean their room and you wonder why it never gets clean? Did you actually teach them how. Step by step? As I notice the things that frustrate me as a mother, I realize that I need to walk them through everything step by step. When I taught my kids how to clean their room it made a huge difference. Starting with toys, then books, then clothes, then making beds. A light bulb came on. They weren't being naughty. They just had no clue what I expected them to do.

I am not saying I never get mad, or am never going to again. But it sure helps to have something to laugh about, and to realize that they really aren't intentionally trying to be naughty. My sweet little neighbor boy Evan was over for a few hours today while his Dad went to the temple. He was eating lunch and spilled some yogurt on my counter. He took both hands and began rubbing it all over. As I started to tell him to stop making a mess he said, "Sashta look! I made a smiley face." He was thrilled.

Kids are awesome. I learn new things every day from my kids. Sometimes it is that I need to be more patient, but most of the time it is how to be genuine and love unconditionally. They really can be so close to the spirit, and I am grateful for the days when it is visibly present at our home. The good times always outweigh the bad.

Enough of my soapbox, here are a couple funnies.

Dylan: Mom, I wish my room was made out of pink bubble gum, candy, and sandwiches that had ham on them. Then I would have to eat my way out of my room. But I wouldn't eat the sandwiches. Only the other stuff.

Logan was SUPER helpful at the store the other day. The following was our conversation on our way home. (after he had loaded my groceries and put my cart away.)

Logan: It makes shopping faster when I am a helper. I want to be that kid. The one who helps his mom. I want to be the kid who is nice. I want to be the kid who doesn't cry. I want to be the kid who doesn't have to choose to be happy, he just is. I want to be the kid who helps without being asked. I want to be the kid who has bandaids in his backpack so if any kid gets hurt I can be prepared. (yes he really said that, I have a scout in the making) I want to be that kid mom so that I can always feel the Holy Ghost in my heart.

Me: You know what I want to be? I want to be the mom of THAT kid.

Logan: Yeah, you want to be the mom of that kid so you can boss him around. (he said it really nice and matter of factly)

**************

We had "cookie monsters" for dessert last night. (Giant hot cookie smothered with caramel, ice cream, and whipped cream) Logan was devouring it. I made one giant one for each family. He and Keith almost finished it off before I even had a bite. He had already eaten lots of dinner and you could tell he was really full. Keith told him his body was telling him he was full by giving him a stomach ache, and that meant he should stop eating.
He said "No, my body is telling me to eat more because it is so good!"
Keith: Just remember to stop when you get too full.

A minute later he left the table and said something like "Your right dad, I'm full, I am done now." The cookie monster was gone!

Keith and I were talking about something and it was a heated conversation in the car. (In our defense we were both angry at the same thing.) Logan piped up in the back "Girls, girls, your both pretty, can I go home now?"

*he got the line from Megamind and thought he was pretty hilarious. At the time it really was.

****************************

Me: What would you like?
Dylan: Those things we had for breakfast I want more of them.
Me: German pancakes...I think they are gone.
Dylan: Well thats what I want.
Me: I found 1 in the fridge and heated it up, put it on a plate and handed it to her.
Dylan: I said I didn't want this I want something else.
Me: You asked for German pancakes, would you like jam or syrup on it?
Dylan: Jam, but I want something else.
Me: I put the jam on the german pancake and handed it back to her.
Dylan: (yelling) I didn't say jam I said syrup. I don't want this and I am never going to eat it.

She then proceeded to walk to the table and ate the whole thing. For some reason MOST of our conversations are like this. Any advice on the matter would be helpful.

*********************************

Our dinner table conversation today.

Logan: Mom, did you know that when you were at the store Dad fell asleep on the floor while we were playing trucks?
Me: I believe it. Did you know Dad can fall asleep anywhere if you give him a minute?
Logan: Yeah, I think he should be a sleepster.
Keith: I do think sleeping should become my hobby.
Logan: Actually it would be cool if Dad could get all the money in the world for sleeping. Like if I paid you all my money right now and you could sleep for 100 days. Would you do it?

I had to laugh. Apparently a "Sleepster" is a career. How do I sign up?

************************************

Dylan was crying because she wants "something". This is a regular thing, then you have to figure out what it is... SHE usually doesn't even know. She finally narrowed it down to "something to sleep with". When Keith asked her what she wanted she replied, "Something tiny and big."

Prayer time

We were just saying family prayer. It is quite a ritual around here. Since Logan and Dylan share a room we do their personal prayers together. So basically everyone gets a turn to pray. I got Logan and Dylan on their knees and asked Logan so say his "Logan prayer" and before he could do it Fin crawled off my lap and got on his knees. I thought it was a fluke, but he stayed like that through all 3 prayers. Then when we were finished he crawled away. Logan and Dylan were so excited they could hardly contain themselves. It took them an hour to fall asleep because they were giggling about it.

Nelson Family Reunion in St. George

Fin hanging out in the shade with Grandma trying to keep cool.
We went to "The Little Mermaid" at Tuacahn. Totally worth the money.
It was awesome. Dylan was so entertained.
She kept us all laughing because she was so into it.

This is Kylee, my cousin Stephanie's daughter.
Her and Dylan were meant to be friends. They are so much alike it is scary.
Too bad they live in Vegas!
Logan learning to swim.
Keith and Logan caught a frog and some fish.
Too bad he didn't get to keep it, it could have been fun.
I don't think they would have survived the hot car while we
shopped on the way home from St. George.
Dylan pretending to be a mommy.
She hung out like this for at least 20 minutes.

This is my mom doing back flips on the trampoline at the Jump on it in St. George (I can't remember what it was called) You would never believe she just turned 50. I didn't get any pictures of it, but my dad was doing back flips of the diving board. He is 55. They are awesome!
A lot of the Nelson clan.
This is one of the only pictures I have of my mom actually looking at the camera. She usually holds her hands up or pulls a dorky face so you won't use the picture.
Can you tell we are related?
My dad. You probably can't see it, but I hope at least one of
my future children has his blue eyes.
